Art of the Piano
June 18 – July 1, 2012
Over 70 hours of classes with the world’s most sought-after teachers
Limited to 24 students, the Art of the Piano is the place to perfect your competition and recital repertoire. Perform in three, 45-minute masterclasses with some of the world’s most sought-after teachers and artists, and enjoy Ann Schein, Tamas Vasary & Awadagin Pratt, Robert Weirich and Wonmi Kim in recital. In addition to the masterclasses, you will perform in one of four student recitals (all of your performances will be available on DVD). You also will have the rare opportunity to receive advice and share in the stories and anecdotes of our guest faculty during our popular roundtable lunches and discussions.
Do you need help maximizing your performance potential on stage? Paul Alexander, Offensive Line Coach of the Cincinnati Bengals, and author of Perform, will be with us to give an engaging and illuminating presentation. His talks, which have been presented to artist managers around the country, illustrate the similarities in process and execution between musicians and athletes. After all is it Leon Fleisher who proclaims us the ” athletes of the little muscles.” Alexander’s presence during the first week will allow you to try the ideas and concepts during the second.
In all, over 70 hours of classes, over 10 hours of recitals; endless hours of illumination and wonderment.
The program’s esteemed faculty includes:
Awadagin Pratt, Artistic Director
Faculty and aspects of the workshop are subject to change.
All classes will be in the beautiful Robert J. Werner Recital Hall at CCM, and pianists will have their choice of two-year old Hamburg or New York Steinways.
